Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge tasks: online quizzes, short answer questions, case studies, written tasks and research projects, matching and true or false activities

  • Practical tasks before starting work placement: interviews, role-plays, creative projects, presentations and practical demonstrations

  • Workplace assessment tasks: written tasks, reflective journals, verbal or written questioning, planning and implementing activities, practical demonstrations

  • Submission of a training logbook

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • A minimum of 160 hours of work placement in a regulated Education and Care Service in Australia is required for this qualification. The work placement will be arranged by the TAFE NSW in partnership with the service and implemented within the your program to enable consolidation, reflection, improvement and assessment to occur.
    • You need to evidence successful progression in the course to be eligible to attempt work placement.
    • You may already have access to a regulated Education and Care service through paid or voluntary employment. This can be assessed by TAFE NSW for suitability for you to complete your placement.
    • A valid Working with Children Check will be required by the Education and Care Service. You can apply at: https://www.ocg.nsw.gov.au/child-safe-organisations/working-with-children-check
    • The Service and/or some locations may also have additional requirements such as vaccination and Police Checks.
    • You will be notified of specific requirements prior to placement. Please note: There are currently COVID 19 vaccination requirements for volunteers and employees in the Education and Care Sector. Details can be found at https://education.nsw.gov.au/early-childhood-education/coronavirus/advice-for-services-and-providers.

    Work placement is an opportunity to learn on the job and complete assessment requirements and often leads to employment opportunities.

Additional entry requirements

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • This course includes mandatory completion of HLTAID012- Provide First Aid in an education and care setting, you must be able to undertake first aid responses including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for at least2 minutes while kneeling on the floor. Provide First Aid in an education and care setting, which will include a mandatory 14-hour face to face session. Early Childhood – First Aid Kit (book and bandages) may be required for the course.

  • It would be best suited to a student who is able to commit to 3-4 days per week on campus and/or virtual classroom study.

  • If this does not sound like you, we have other delivery options that may better suit you.

  • Students will require regular access to and have the ability to use a computer and internet. This could be either be your personal device or can be accessed to your local campus.

    • Minimum 160 hours work placement in a regulated Education and Care Service
    • Student needs to demonstrate successful progression in the course to be eligible to attempt work placement

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 Units of competency, including 15 core and 2 speciality units.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.

With facilities designed to simulate real-world situations and working environments, TAFE NSW Miller provides students with the opportunity to apply their skills in a practical way. Like the Building and Construction Faculty, which features beautiful timber panelling, stained glass windows and painted ceiling rosettes that have all been skilfully restored by talented TAFE NSW students.
