Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge tasks: online quizzes, short answer questions, case studies, written tasks and research projects, matching and true or false activities

  • Practical tasks before starting work placement: interviews, role-plays, creative projects, presentations and practical demonstrations

  • Workplace assessment tasks: written tasks, reflective journals, verbal or written questioning, planning and implementing activities, practical demonstrations

  • Submission of a training logbook

  • Workplace portfolio

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:
    You are required to undertake a minimum of 160 hours of work placement in an Australian regulated education and care service as part of the training package requirements for this qualification.
    You will be provided with access to a suitable Australian regulated education and care service for work placement. This is arranged by TAFE NSW teachers or workplace managers and assessed for suitability.
    You may already have access to a registered education and care service through paid or voluntary employment. This can be assessed for suitability for the student to complete their placement

    Complete a 'Working with Children Check'- Anyone engaging in child-related work (including student placements and volunteers) MUST have a current Working with Children Check (students/volunteers free). Visit: https://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/child-safe-organisations/working-with-children-check https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-working-children-check. You will need to provide your WWCC number to your coordinator within the first 3 weeks. You will need to access a computer & sufficient internet for online classes & study. You will be required to undertake connected theory classes via an online platform such as MS Teams and /or attend modified practical demonstrations, assessment or practical skills at Nirimba Campus.
    You will need to have computer literacy skills to be able to complete this course. Further information regarding this will be provided at orientation& during your course.

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • This course offering is designed for people who:

  • Are able to committ to this 3-4 day per week program for 27 delivery weeks. This is generally across 3 school terms with term breaks. It would be best suited to a student who is able to commit to 3-4 days per week on campus and/or virtual classroom study. If this does not sound like you, we have other delivery options that may better suit you. Students will require regular access to, and have the ability to use a computer and internet. This could either be your personal device or can be accessed at your local campus.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 Units of competency, including 15 core and 2 speciality units.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.

Nirimba

TAFE NSW Nirimba is located within the Nirimba Education Precinct at Quakers Hill, a short 15 minute walk from the Quakers Hill train station. While being Western Sydney’s major centre for training in building and construction, TAFE NSW Nirimba also caters for the logistics, information technology, child studies, business services, music and entertainment and community services sectors.
