There has been demand for teacher aides since 2011 with significant continued job growth expected through to 2023. An anticipated 85,000 jobs will open over the next 5 years. Also in high-demand are teaching assistants in mainstream schools to support students with disability and learning difficulties.

This is a part time day course. You will need to attend approximately 6 hours for face to face class, over 1 day a week, for 36 weeks. An additional 3 hour weekly video conference workshop is offered to all students.
As well as the class and workshop components, you may need to complete additional study hours per week, including research, prescribed readings, follow up activities and structured study.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
This qualification is for learners who want to work in a range of education settings, including public and independent schools and community education settings, who provide assistance and support to teachers and students under broad-based supervision. Cohorts can include existing workers, new to industry, and trainees. There are no licensing, legislative or certification requirements that apply to this qualification; however, learners will need to be able to obtain a Working with Children Check to be able to undertake the work placement component of the course.
Students will need Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills at a level that allows them to be able to access to a computer and the internet and complete course work. Industry strongly supports the use of work placements in the Community Services sector for a number of reasons:
- To strengthen the experience for the individual of the workplace to support future expectations of performance in the workforce
- To develop practice skills and application of knowledge within the workplace promotes stronger embedding of learning
- To provide exposure to real workplace situations and circumstances which cannot be replicated in a learning environment or simulation.
You are required to your work placement, in either a primary or secondary school. There is 100hrs of compulsory work placement, which can be completed in a voluntary or paid capacity

SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
