##TRAINING PACKAGE REQUIREMENTS

TAFE NSW REQUIREMENTS

To complete this course, you will need to have:

  • A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC). Your WWCC must be provided before working with children and young people in simulated work environments or prior to work placement. Your teacher will advise you when this is necessary
  • Evidence of certain vaccinations. Some workplaces will require this evidence before you are able to start your work placement

It is also important to know that by enrolling in this course, you agree that you are physically fit and able to undertake the following tasks:

  • Manual lifting
  • Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and first aid to an expected standard. Certain aspects of assessment rely on your physical ability to: perform two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult and infant manikin at floor level, and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life

If you are unable to provide evidence or meet the physical requirements listed above, you will not be able to successfully complete this course.

##LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

There are no licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

##WORK PLACEMENT

Work placement provides you with opportunities to practice responding to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a classroom or simulated environment.

This course has a mandatory 100 hours of work placement to enable you to apply your learning in a practical environment.

TAFE NSW will support you in coordinating your work placement agreement within a school (K-12) environment that caters for students with recognised additional needs.

YOUR READINESS FOR WORK PLACEMENT

Work placements generally only begin once you have had significant contact with your teacher and they are satisfied that you are ready to benefit from on-the-job learning and performing workplace duties.

##BE PREPARED

To be prepared for this course, it is recommended that you are:

  • Reasonably fit and flexible to carry out first aid responses like CPR while kneeling on the floor
  • Able to access a K-12 school that caters for students with recognised additional needs, and can undertake the 100 hours of work placement

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • to purchase the textbook: Supporting Education ? 3rd Edition by Karen Kearns (ISBN: 9780170419642). RRP $95.00
  • access to a computer and Internet for some research activities and completion of assessments. You will require a reliable Internet connection.
  • to hold a current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) prior to commencing the traineeship. If you cannot obtain a WWCC you will be unable to acquire a traineeship position. The WWCC will be verified through the Office of the Children's Guardian by TAFE NSW and stored on the student's file.
  • to have completed a National Police Check
  • to be reasonably, physically fit to undertake the traineeship as the tasks and activities associated may involve manual lifting and other physical activities.

Work Placement is a requirement of this course. You will need to complete:

  • a minimum of 100 hours supervised work placement within a school (K-12) environment that caters for students with recognised additional needs.
  • This will be well covered by the on-the-job component of your traineeship work in the school where you will be required to complete a range of assessment tasks in the workplace.
  • You will need to consider, in consultation with your workplace supervisor, how many hours will be required to complete the tasks and demonstrate the skills required.

TRAINEES ONLY

Before you can start a traineeship, you first need to find K ? 12 school to employ you as a trainee and who will support you through your studies. You and the school employer should contact an Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) and tell them you're interested in studying at TAFE Digital.
The ANP will help you and your employer to complete a Training Contract. Once you have a Training Contract, we will help you, your employer and the ANP to complete a Training Plan Proposal. Once you have both these documents, the ANP will lodge them with Training Services NSW and we will contact you to complete your enrolment.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is an online course. You will need to complete approximately 18 hours of online study, each week, for your enrolment duration of 1 year.
You can increase the hours of online study per week to complete the course sooner.

You can also expect to complete approximately 6 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, work experience and research.

  • want to start a career as a trainee in the education support sector. Students require employment as a trainee with a school prior to enrolling in this traineeship course.

An Education Support traineeship is suitable as a career change or to return to work. A traineeship is also suited to new entrants to the education industry.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

This training is subsidised by the NSW government under Smart and Skilled. The student fee you will need to pay, will be determined according to your personal circumstances and eligibility for a subsidised place. You may also be eligible for a concession fee, fee exemption, or fee free scholarship. Payment made by instalments is available.

Before you can start a traineeship, you first need to find an employer in the industry you're interested in that will support you through your studies. You and your employer should contact an Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) and tell them you're interested in studying at TAFE NSW.
