Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge tasks: online quizzes, multiple choice questions, matching and true or false activities

  • Project tasks: case studies, creative projects, research activities, presentations

  • Workplace portfolio: reflective journals, implementing activities, practical skills demonstrations

  • Training logbook: completion of a minimum of 100 hours of work placement

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • The Public Health (COVID -19 Vaccination of Education and Care Workers) Order 2021 states that anyone working on a NSW school site – government and non-government schools, including students on student placement, must be fully vaccinated. The vaccination requirement is for workers or students to have received 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine or be issued with a medical contraindication certificate by 8 November 2021 to be able to undertake relevant work.

    • If you are not vaccinated we cannot assure you that this component of your course can be organized or fulfilled, which will impact your ability to successfully course complete.     • TAFENSW recognises students’ reasons for not being vaccinated. This can be discussed privately with TAFE NSW career counsellors prior to enrolment.

    • Work placement may be organised by individual students with endorsement from TAFE NSW via a letter of introduction from the teaching section to verify your enrolment in the Education Support qualification for the school that you are requesting work placement experience.

    • The units CHCEDS050 and CHCDIV001 include a cultural excursion in our local area at a cost of $25 per student.

  • This course is only available to students living within the following regions:

    • The Mid North Coast: Coffs Harbour, Nambucca, Macksville and the Lower Clarence; Grafton through to Yamba.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in School Based Education Support qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 10 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
