Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge tasks: online quizzes, multiple choice questions, matching and true or false activities

  • Project tasks: case studies, creative projects, research activities, presentations

  • Workplace portfolio: reflective journals, implementing activities, practical skills demonstrations

  • Training logbook: completion of a minimum of 100 hours of work placement

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    A minimum of 100 hours of work placement in a classroom environment catering to primary or secondary school students, within at least one school in Australia, is a national requirement for this qualification.

    The work placement will be be organised by individual students with endorsement from TAFE NSW via a letter of introduction from the teaching section to verify your enrolment in the Education Support qualification for the school that you are requesting work placement experience. This work placement will be provided in partnership with the school and implemented within the student’s program to enable consolidation, reflection, improvement, and assessment to occur.

    Work placement is an opportunity to learn on the job and complete assessment requirements and often leads to employment opportunities. You need to meet the following requirements to be able to undertake work placement. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:

    • A Working with Children Check (WWCC)
    • Vaccination and health screenings
    • Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires

    The Public Health (COVID -19 Vaccination of Education and Care Workers) Order 2021 states that anyone working on a NSW school site – government and non-government schools, including students on student placement, must be fully vaccinated. If you are not vaccinated we cannot assure you that this component of your course can be organized or fulfilled, which will impact your ability to successfully course complete.   • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

  • This 12 month course requires your participation in a combination of face to face and virtual classes, plus work placement, for a minimum of 3 days per week for 36 delivery weeks, and is classified as full time study. The course is delivered across 4 school terms with term breaks. It would be best suited to a learner who is able to commit to 2 days per week on campus and 1 day attending work placement in a primary or secondary school setting, and is generally delivered during school hours. This delivery can be coupled with work in a classroom environment catering to primary or secondary school students or other employment or commitments.

  • If this does not sound like you, we have other delivery options that may better suit you. Students will require regular access to, and have the ability to use a computer and internet. This could either be

  • your personal device or can be accessed at your local campus.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in School Based Education Support qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 10 core and 5 speciality units.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
