Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge tasks: online quizzes, multiple choice questions, matching and true or false activities

  • Project tasks: case studies, creative projects, research activities, presentations

  • Workplace portfolio: reflective journals, implementing activities, practical skills demonstrations

  • Training logbook: completion of a minimum of 100 hours of work placement

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • A minimum of 100 hours of work placement in a classroom environment catering to primary or secondary school students, within at least one school, is required for this qualification. You will be required to identify and arrange your own work placement. Work placement is an opportunity to learn on the job and complete assessment requirements and often leads to employment opportunities. The Public Health (COVID -19 Vaccination of Education and Care Workers) Order 2021 states that education and care workers are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 vaccine or be issued with a medical contraindication certificate to be able to undertake relevant work. This applies to students on work placement in a school based environment. If you are not vaccinated we cannot assure you that this component of your course can be organized or fulfilled, which will impact your ability to successfully course complete. Details can be found https://education.nsw.gov.au/early-childhood-education/coronavirus/advice-for-services-and-providers. TAFENSW recognizes students’ reasons for not being vaccinated. This can be discussed privately with TAFE NSW career counsellors prior to enrolment.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in School Based Education Support qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 10 core and 5 speciality units.
