ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

TAFE NSW offers the Certificate III in Individual Support (Home and Community) as either a traineeship or non-traineeship, so you can shape the career you want.

Non-traineeship

There are no entry requirements for non-trainees. You can enrol in this course now.

Traineeship

To be eligible for this course you must:

  • Be employed in the care industry as this course is delivered in the workplace
  • Have a signed traineeship contract

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements that are necessary for you to complete your course work and be successful.

You will need to meet the following success requirements to be able to undertake work placement within industry. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:

  • Australian National Police Record Check
  • Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against infectious diseases
  • Health care worker/student vaccination record card
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) depending on your work placement
  • Signed code of conduct form and any other forms
  • Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires

WORK PLACEMENT

Work placement provides you with opportunities to practise responding to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

During your course you will undertake a mandatory 120 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will either arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

  • Have a Driver Licence to travel to client homes if required

You must also have a reasonable level of fitness and flexibility to carry out:

  • Manual handling tasks
  • First aid responses including performing CPR while kneeling on the floor

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have a current Police Check and First Aid Certificate HLTAID003 or higher. First Aid can be completed at TAFE if you do not have a current First Aid Certificate.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • Be prepared to study outside of classroom time.
  • Work placement is a requirement of this course of 120 hours. You will need to have appropriate clothing, navy of black trousers, a white or navy polo shirt, black or navy closed in shoes that are leather or vinyl.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Part Time Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 7.5 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 1 year. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 20.1 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 6.3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, revision, reading, assignment preparation and work experience.

This course is offered by Connected Classroom.?This is just like a regular classroom, but teachers and students use the latest video conferencing technologies.

Your teacher can be in one TAFE location, and you can join the class from another TAFE location using video conferencing equipment or a mobile device. You can also join in from a venue in a participating regional community. You will be able to see and talk to your teacher and other students as though they were in the room with you. You will also have access to support to meet your learning needs.

If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID 19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled at TAFE NSW Narrabri Campus on Monday from 9.00am to 3.30pm and Wednesday from 5pm to 7.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
