COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements to complete your coursework.

You need to meet the following requirements to be able to undertake work placement. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:

  • A National Police Check
  • A Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Vaccination and health screenings
  • Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires

During your induction, you will undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Indicator Tool to identify your general strengths and any skills gaps.

WORK PLACEMENT

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment.

During your course you will undertake a mandatory 100 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

TAFE NSW will help you arrange your work placement in a school (K-12) environment that caters for students with recognised additional needs.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • The ability to read, write and speak English at least a Year 10 level or equivalent
  • The ability to write at least one page of comprehensive information
  • A reasonable level of fitness to undertake manual handling tasks, and perform CPR while kneeling on the floor

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

  • Relevant legal checks - prior to undertaking work placement, learners will be required to provide a Working With Children Check.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • to have computer access, internet and ability to complete, scan and upload Microsoft Word and PDF documents.

Work Placement is a requirement of this course. You will need to complete:
-100 hours of Work Placement in a primary or secondary school setting, in a paid or voluntary position in a Government or non-Government school.

  • A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to commencing work placement. Students will not be excluded from enrolment in the course if they do not have their WWWC prior to commencing, as it is the school's legal responsibility to confirm that students have a current WWCC.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full-time blended-delivery course. You will need to attend approximately 6 hours of class, over 1 day a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 14 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including self directed study, research, online Moodle, assessment preparation, and workplacement preparation.

This course is offered by Connected Classroom.  This is just like a regular classroom, but teachers and students use the latest video conferencing technologies.

Your teacher can be in one TAFE location, and you can join the class from another TAFE location using video conferencing equipment or a mobile device. You can also join in from a venue in a participating regional community. You will be able to see and talk to your teacher and other students as though they were in the room with you. You will also have access to support to meet your learning needs.

  • want to work or are already working as a Teachers Aide or Education Support Officer in a Primary or Secondary School setting for either a Government or non-Government School.

The way you learn may change during your enrolment to ensure the best learning experience or to keep you safe as COVID-19 restrictions change, and some of our face to face classes may change to online or virtual classroom learning. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled via weekly online connected classroom using Microsoft Teams, on Tuesday 9.30am to 3.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
