Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • A minimum of 100 hours of work placement in a classroom environment catering to primary or secondary school students. within at least one school in Australia.
    • The work placement will be arranged by the TAFE NSW in partnership with the school and implemented within the student’s program to enable consolidation, reflection, improvement and assessment to occur.
    • A student may already have access to a primary or secondary school through paid or voluntary employment. This can be assessed by TAFE NSW for suitability for the student to complete their placement.
    • A valid Working with Children Check will be required by the School. Complete a ‘Working with Children Check’. Anyone engaging in child-related work (including student placements and volunteers) MUST have a current Working with Children Check.     • The School and/or some locations may also have additional requirements such as vaccination and Police Checks. Students will be notified of specific requirements prior to placement.     • Work placement is an opportunity to learn on the job and complete assessment requirements and often leads to employment opportunities.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in School Based Education Support qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 units of competency, including 13 core and 4 speciality units.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
