Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

The work placement will be organised by individual students with endorsement from TAFE NSW via a letter of introduction from the teaching section to verify your enrolment in the Education Support qualification for the school that you are requesting work placement experience. Work placement is an opportunity to learn on the job and complete assessment requirements and often leads to employment opportunities.

Students will be notified of specific requirements prior to placement. The Public Health (COVID-19 Vaccination of Education and Care Workers) Order 2021 states that anyone working on a NSW school site - government and non-government schools, including students on student placement, must be fully vaccinated. The vaccination requirement is for workers or students to have received 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine or be issued with a medical contraindication certificate by 8 November 2021 to be able to undertake relevant work. If you are not vaccinated we cannot assure you that this component of your course can be organized or fulfilled, which will impact your ability to successfully course complete. Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in School Based Education Support qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 units of competency, including 13 core and 4 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
