Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • a minimum of 100 hours of work placement in a classroom environment catering to primary or secondary school students within at least one school in Australia.

    The work placement will be organised by individual students with endorsement from TAFE NSW via a letter of introduction from the teaching section to verify your enrolment in the Education Support qualification for the school that you are requesting work placement experience. Work placement is an opportunity to learn on the job and complete assessment requirements and often leads to employment opportunities.

    • a computer and internet. This could either be your personal device or can be accessed at your local campus.

  • This course offering is designed for people who:

    • have previously completed the CHC30213 Certificate III in Education Support.
  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

    • a valid Working with Children's Check (WWCC) for students over the age of 18 years.
    • a National Police Check.
    • current immunisation records.
  • Students will be notified of specific requirements prior to placement. The Public Health (COVID-19 Vaccination of Education and Care Workers) Order 2021 states that anyone working on a NSW school site - government and non-government schools, including students on student placement, must be fully vaccinated. The vaccination requirement is for workers or students to have received 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine or be issued with a medical contraindication certificate by 8 November 2021 to be able to undertake relevant work. If you are not vaccinated we cannot assure you that this component of your course can be organized or fulfilled, which will impact your ability to successfully course complete. Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in School Based Education Support qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 units of competency, including 13 core and 4 speciality units.
