The nationally accredited Certificate IV in Community Services will help you build a career as a community services worker in the fastest growing industry in Australia. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for this course, you must provide evidence of a valid:

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Criminal History Check

Traineeship

TAFE NSW also offers the?Certificate IV in Community Services as a traineeship. To undertake this course as a trainee you must meet the entry requirements above and provide evidence of the following:

  • You are employed in?the community services industry as this course is delivered in the workplace
  • You have a signed?traineeship contract

WORK PLACEMENT

Work placement provides you with opportunities to practise responding to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment.

You will attend a one-day workplace orientation, and complete one of the following levels of mandatory work placement hours:

  • 120 hours (15 days) of work placement - if you are already working in the industry
  • 150 hours (20 days) of work placement - if you are new to the industry

Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will either arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

  • Be adequately fit and mobile to deliver First Aid - like performing CPR while kneeling on the floor
  • Enjoy working with people and independently
  • Have patience and can relate easily to people

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, students must be able to demonstrate a minimum Level of Literacy to enter and complete the course.

Students must have a Working With Children Check (WWCC) to enable them to go out on their work placement. They must also be prepared to undergo a Criminal Record Check if required to by the host agency. If their placement is in a NSW Health facility, they must be prepared to show evidence of immunisation and go through the relevant NSW Health procedures surrounding this.

Total Work Placement is 160 hours. This can be in their own workplace if the type of employment is assessed as sufficient for the Certificate IV level. Otherwise a suitable placement is negotiated by TAFE NSW negotiating with potential host agencies on the students behalf.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a blended full time course. You will need to attend approximately 12 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 1 year. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 12.3 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 4.2 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including reviewing class notes, reading, study notes and personal thoughts/reflections.

If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID 19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8.30am to 3.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
