Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Skills assessment: role play scenario, presentation, practical, observation including workplace assessments

  • Knowledge assessment: multiple choice, true or false, short answer questions

  • Case study: case study scenario, reflection

  • Portfolio: samples of work in a workplace environment

  • Project: report, research-based project, journal, essay

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • Every effort is made by TAFE NSW staff to ensure a successful outcome for enrolled learners. Students have the option to undertake connected delivery and face-to-face delivery on campus.
    Entry requirements for this course include

    • completing a literacy and numeracy assessment to a satisfactory level.
    • All students will be required to complete an online enrolment.
    • Each student will be required to complete 120 hours of practical experience in an accredited aged care facility.
    • A current clear Criminal Record Check must be completed and submitted to the class teacher by week 4, 12/08/2022
    • a current flu vaccination and other health department immunisation requirements.

    Attendance will be Wednesday face to face or via online learning with Monday as a tutorial support/ flexible learning day.
    Practical demonstration skills will be held at TAFE. Due to COVID-19 social distancing measures will be put in place for face-to-face delivery.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Ageing Support qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 18 Units of competency, including 15 core and 3 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
