Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • Work experience provides you with exposure to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment.

  • Mandatory work placement is not required in this course however, we strongly recommend you undertake work experience with a suitable industry employer.

Additional entry requirements

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • To complete this course and the required industry consultation, project work and/or industry placement hours (minimum of 100 hours), you will need to provide a Current Working with Children Clearance and a National Police Check. You will be required to obtain these documents and submit to your teacher by Wednesday 11 August 2021. Please note that a history of violent behaviour and other criminal offences may limit work placement opportunites and employment in the Community Services sector.

  • Work placement is a requirement of this course. You will need to complete:

    • Students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of industry consultation, project work and/or industry placement hours. Due to potential impacts of COVID 19, there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these hours in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 units of competency , including 12 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

  • Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues CHCAOD006

  • Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans CHCAOD009

Course delivery Virtual classroom, on campus

You will attend a TAFE NSW campus or Connected Learning Centre to connect with your teachers and other students in a virtual classroom where you will participate in learning activities via video or web conferencing technology. Much like a regular class, you will have scheduled times of attendance. Depending on what you are studying, your course may also include some online units or practice training though our network of Mobile Training Units.
