COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements to complete your coursework.

You need to meet the following requirements to be able to undertake work placement. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • A National Police Check
  • Vaccination and health screenings
  • Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires

WORK PLACEMENT

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

During your course you will undertake a mandatory 80 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course:

  • This qualification requires Level 3 writing skills

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • the completion of working with children check, Police check and Level 3 writing skills to complete placement
  • 80 hours work placement to be completed. Students must therefore be either: Employed in a relevant position in a relevant field of industry, undertake a work placement - teachers can determine who, how, when and where within either their own networks or support the student to gain a placement themselves at the local level.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full-time, blended course. You will need to attend approximately 14.5 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 10.4 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 1.7 hours of additional study each week outside of class including unstructured learning for this course includes: tutorial hours including online support, self- directed, group work, assessment preparation and completion, private study, research, iTAFE and work experience.

If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9.00am to 3.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
