Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Skills assessment: role play scenarios, presentation, practical, observation (including assessments in the workplace)

  • Knowledge assessment: multiple choice, true or false, short answer questions

  • Portfolio: samples of work in a workplace environment

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • You will undertake a mandatory minimum of 80 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

  • Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

    • current NSW Working with Children Check (for volunteers)
    • current National Police Check. Please note having a criminal conviction may prevent you from accessing a suitable work placement.
  • Work Placement is a requirement of this course, you will need to complete:

  • In this course you will be required to complete 80 hours of workplace learning however access to work placements may be disrupted due to COVID-19. TAFE NSW has implemented additional protocols to protect workplace, student and Teachers and/or Assessor health and safety. You will need to complete a police record check and a Working with Children Check before you go on placement

  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

    • attend classes on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9:30am to 3:00pm. Your teacher will confirm your timetable.
    • complete 80 hours of work placement

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Mental Health qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 11 core and 4 speciality units.
