Course Details
This qualification reflects the role of workers participating in the design, implementation and evaluation of leisure, health activities and programs for clients in one or more sector areas. Workers may be in residential facilities and/or in community agencies and day centres, completing specialised tasks and functions in relation to leisure and health. While workers are responsible for their own outputs, work is carried out under direct or indirect supervision within defined organisation guidelines.
This is a fully government-subsidised JobTrainer course. Eligibility criteria applies.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY
If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.

WORK PLACEMENTS
Many TAFE courses have a compulsory work placement component to assist you to apply your learning in a practical environment and you may be required to comply with some (or all) of the following.

Before you commence any clinical placements in NSW Health facilities, you will be required to
Meet NSW Healths - Criminal Record Check requirements;
Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW Health;
Undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.
To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to:
- present a Current National Criminial Record Check without convictions on the first day of class.
- pesent evidence of current flu vaccination to particiapte in work placement at most local organisations.
To successfully complete this course, you will need:
- a National Criminal Record Check without convictions
- to have the physical ability to complete tasks required of a Recreational Activities Officer
- to have a basic level of literacy and English language skills
- to have entry level employability and life skills, to enable you to provide support to clients in your work role upon course completion
- to have basic computer skills
- to successfully complete 120 hours of work placement, in an Aged Care or Disability setting, throughout the course. Some workplaces require students to complete a health check, immunisation and/or Working with Children Check (WWCC)

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a part time day, blended course. You will need to attend approximately 7 hours of class, over 1 day a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 14.9 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete additional study each week outside of class hours, including assignment preparation, research, revision, work placement reflection / debriefing. An optional support session with an Educational Support Officer is available Fridays 9.00am-3.00pm at Gosford TAFE in a computer room.
Monday class will be delivered as Connected learning using MS Teams.

- Are interested in gaining employment as a Recreational Activities Officer in a Health or community services Setting.
- Have a National Criminal Record Check without convictions.
- Have the physical ability to complete tasks required of a Recreational Activities Officer.
- A basic level of literacy, English language skills and entry level employability and life skills which will enable you to provide support to clients in your work role upon course completion.
- Basic computer skills and course work and assessments will be accessed through an online learning platform.

If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID-19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. This course is currently scheduled on Monday (connected learning) from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. and Tuesday from 9.00am to 3.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
