Course Details
This qualification reflects the role of workers participating in the design, implementation and evaluation of leisure, health activities and programs for clients in one or more sector areas. Workers may be in residential facilities and/or in community agencies and day centres, completing specialised tasks and functions in relation to leisure and health. While workers are responsible for their own outputs, work is carried out under direct or indirect supervision within defined organisation guidelines.
This is a fully government-subsidised JobTrainer course. Eligibility criteria applies.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY
If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.

WORK PLACEMENTS
Many TAFE courses have a compulsory work placement component to assist you to apply your learning in a practical environment and you may be required to comply with some (or all) of the following.

Before you commence any clinical placements in NSW Health facilities, you will be required to
Meet NSW Healths - Criminal Record Check requirements;
Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW Health;
Undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.
To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:
- You will be required to attend mandatory information session, complete a pre-selection form and hold a Clear criminal record.
- Some workplaces require students to complete a health check, immunisation &/or Working with children check.
To successfully complete this course, you will need:
- Certificate IV in Leisure and Health requires the successful completion of 17 units of competency and will be offered: Part-time and delivered over 12 months.
- Students will be provided with a blended delivery program that will involve face-to-face and online teaching and learning.
- The complexity of core and elective units designed for this course can be managed satisfactorily by combining the theoretical components and the development of skills methodically, ensuring the breadth and depth of knowledge required to achieve competency can be easily attained.
- You will also be required to successfully complete 120 hours work placement.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a Part Time day course. You will need to attend approximately 11.5 hours of class, over 1 day a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 10.4 hours of other study per week.

Time with teacher outside of the classroom/ online lecture environment (e.g. sitting with a teacher in the library for support)

Contact with teachers via email, Skype calls, phone calls, allocated meeting times
Work Placement Support including helping the student identify and secure a work placement, supportive conversations with a teacher or ESO, debriefing/ mentoring by an ESO etc

SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
