Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false activities, research projects, presentations, creative projects

  • Skills assessments: critical reflection activities and reflective journals, programming, planning and implementing curriculum tasks

  • Practical skills assessments: practical demonstrations such as implementing experiences and routines

  • Submission of a training logbook

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • A minimum of 280 hours of work placement in a regulated Education and Care Service in Australia is required for this qualification.

    The work placement will be arranged by the TAFE NSW in partnership with the service and implemented within the student's program to enable consolidation, reflection, improvement and assessment to occur. A student may already have access to a regulated Education and Care service through paid or voluntary employment. This can be assessed by TAFE NSW for suitability for the student to complete their placement.

    • Students will require regular access to, and have the ability to use a computer and internet. This could either be your personal device or can be accessed at your local campus.

  • This course offering is designed for people who:

    • Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who hold a CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, or, CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

    • A valid Working with Children Check will be required by the Education and Care Service. The Service and/or some locations may also have additional requirements such as vaccination and Police Checks. Students will be notified of specific requirements prior to placement.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 , including 12 core and 3 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
