Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false activities, research projects, presentations, creative projects

  • Skills assessments: critical reflection activities and reflective journals, programming, planning and implementing curriculum tasks

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • A minimum of 280 hours of work placement in a regulated Education and Care Service in Australia is required for this qualification.
    • You may already have access to a regulated Education and Care service through paid or voluntary employment. This can be assessed by TAFE NSW for suitability for you to complete your placement. If you do not have suitable current employment in a regulated Education and Care Service, the work placement will be arranged by TAFE NSW in partnership with the service and implemented within the your program to enable consolidation, reflection, improvement and assessment to occur.
    • A valid Working with Children Check will be required by the Education and Care Service. The Service and/or some locations may also have additional requirements such as vaccination and Police Checks. You will be notified of specific requirements prior to placement. Please note: There are currently COVID 19 vaccination requirements for volunteers and employees in the Education and Care Sector.     • Work placement is an opportunity to learn on the job and complete assessment requirements and often leads to employment and/or promotion opportunities.

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • This course offering is designed for people who:

    • Hold Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121 or CHC30113).
    • Identify as Aboriginal
  • This part time evening (2 year course) involves a 1 night per week (4.30pm-7.30pm) program for 74 delivery weeks. This is generally across 8 school terms with term breaks. It would be best suited to a learner who is able to commit to evening classes at the Nikinpa Aboriginal Child and Family Centre at Toronto, plus online study completed outside class times. You may already be employed in an education and care service, or seeking that employment in the future. This delivery can easily be coupled with work in the education and care sector, or other employment or commitments.

  • If this does not sound like you, we have other delivery options that may better suit you. Students will require regular access to, and have the ability to use a computer and internet. This could either be your personal device or can be accessed at your local campus. We look forward to supporting you in reaching your career goals.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 , including 12 core and 3 speciality units.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
