Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false activities, research projects, presentations, creative projects

  • Skills assessments: critical reflection activities and reflective journals, programming, planning and implementing curriculum tasks

  • Practical skills assessments: practical demonstrations such as implementing experiences and routines

  • Submission of a training logbook

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • Successful completion of the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121 or CHC30113).
    • Work placement will be undertaken within the Western Sydney region, around Fairfield/ Liverpool local Government area.
    • A minimum of 280 hours of work placement in a regulated Education and Care Service in Australia is required for this qualification. The work placement will be arranged by the TAFE NSW in partnership with the service and implemented within your program to enable consolidation, reflection, improvement and assessment to occur. You will need to evidence successful progression in the course to be eligible to attempt work placement.
    • You may already have access to a regulated Education and Care service through paid or voluntary employment. This can be assessed by TAFE NSW for suitability for you to complete your placement.
    • A valid Working with Children Check will be required by the Education and Care Service. You can apply here: https://www.ocg.nsw.gov.au/child-safe-organisations/working-with-children-check
    • The Service and/or some locations may also have additional requirements such as vaccination and Police Checks. You will be notified of specific requirements prior to placement. Please note: There are currently COVID 19 vaccination requirements for volunteers and employees in the Education and Care Sector. Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.

Miller

TAFE NSW Miller is a quiet and relaxed campus located on Hoxton Park Road, just off the M7 in Sydney’s south west. With facilities designed to simulate real-world situations and working environments, TAFE NSW Miller provides students with the opportunity to apply their skills in a practical way. Like the Building and Construction Faculty, which features beautiful timber panelling, stained glass windows and painted ceiling rosettes that have all been skilfully restored by talented TAFE NSW students.
