Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false activities, research projects, presentations, creative projects

  • Skills assessments: critical reflection activities and reflective journals, programming, planning and implementing curriculum tasks

  • Practical skills assessments: practical demonstrations such as implementing experiences and routines

  • Submission of a training logbook

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • You are required to complete work placement in an Early Childhood Service in the Western Sydney region. This work placement is to be completed in your place of employment. Work placement can occur anytime over the course of your study. You must commit to attending all hours for classes onsite or in a virtual environment.. You must possess the necessary technology skills and equipment to complete your studies in a virtual environment. This includes having a computer, head set and camera.
    • A minimum of 280 hours of work placement in a regulated Education and Care Service in Australia is required for this qualification. This must be completed in your place of employment.
    • You must already be employed in a regulated Education and Care service. This can be assessed by TAFE NSW for suitability for you to complete your placement.
    • A valid Working with Children Check will be required by the Education and Care Service. You can apply here: https://www.ocg.nsw.gov.au/child-safe-organisations/working-with-children-check
    • The Service and/or some locations may also have additional requirements such as vaccination and Police Checks.
    • You will be notified of specific requirements prior to placement. Please note: There are currently COVID 19 vaccination requirements for volunteers and employees in the Education and Care Sector.

    • Hold Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121 or CHC30113).

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 , including 12 core and 3 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
