Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.
Knowledge assessments: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false activities, research projects, presentations, creative projects
Skills assessments: critical reflection activities and reflective journals, programming, planning and implementing curriculum tasks
Practical skills assessments: practical demonstrations such as implementing experiences and routines
Submission of a training logbook
Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.
This is a workbased course with a minimum of 280 hours of work placement in a regulated Education and Care Service in Australia. Students must either be currently employed in a relevant position in a regulated Education and Care Service a minimum of one day (8 hours) per week or undertake a work placement arranged by TAFE NSW a minimum of one day (8 hours) per week. This will be organised in partnership with the service and implemented within the student’s program to enable consolidation, reflection, improvement and assessment to occur.

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.
You will be required to attend workshops (face-to-face or online) on some Wednesday evenings from 6pm - 8.30pm. You will receive a workshop timetable at Orientation.
You must be:
• Be physically fit to undertake tasks associated with the work placement (such as manual lifting)
• Be physically fit to undertake first aid responses including performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while kneeling on the floor.
• Follow TAFE NSW policy and procedures, adhering to NSW law when enrolling students under the age of 17- https://www.tafensw.edu.au/study/pathways/school-to-tafe. Students under 18 years of age will require signed consent from their parents or guardians for certain course written agreements.
• First Aid- complete HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting which will include mandatory face to face and online sessions. For students who are unable to attend a TAFE NSW campus to complete the unit they will need to obtain a statement of attainment for HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting with another RTO and provide evidence of this. Student’s fee will be reduced accordingly on enrolment or submission of their statement once a credit transfer has been completed.
All students are encouraged to attend an Information Session to receive details about this course. At the Information Session you will be asked to complete a Student Information Form as well as receive information about completing a literacy and numeracy screener called RUReady. This will enable staff to identify vocational pathways and any supports that are required to set you up for success on your learning journey.

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 , including 12 core and 3 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.
Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
