Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false activities, research projects, presentations, creative projects

  • Skills assessments: critical reflection activities and reflective journals, programming, planning and implementing curriculum tasks

  • Practical skills assessments: practical demonstrations such as implementing experiences and routines

  • Submission of a training logbook

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • During your course, you will undertake a mandatory 280 hours of work placement in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia. Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

Additional entry requirements

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • This course is self paced. You will have up to 2 years to complete, however you may wish to work more quickly and complete in an earlier time frame. This is generally across 8 school terms with term breaks. It would be best suited to a learner who is employed in a regulated Early Education and Care setting. You will need to study independently and work with an assigned TAFE mentor. You may be required to attend campus for workshops or mentoring sessions and/or virtual classroom study which is generally delivered during school hours. This delivery can easily be coupled with work in the education and care sector, or other employment or commitments. There is ample space in this timetable for additional time to grasp concepts and consolidate skills and knowledge. If this does not sound like you, we have other delivery options that may better suit you. Students will require regular access to, and have the ability to use a computer and internet. Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 , including 12 core and 3 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
