To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are working in the Community Services industry in a position aligned to the skills and knowledge of a Diploma level qualification or be deemed as a student suitable to complete Diploma through previous experience, interview with teacher and completion of Literacy/Numeracy testing. For students seeking to pathway from Certificate IV Community Services Credit Transfers will be organised with the teacher and attendance in class for those uoc not required.

  • To successfully complete this course, you will need to successfully undertake 120 work placement hours. Students must therefore be either:

    • Employed in a relevant position in the relevant field of industry
    • Undertake a work placement – teachers can determine who, how, when and where within either their own networks or support the student to gain a placement themselves at the local level
  • Eligibility for work placement:

  • Before commencement of professional experience, students will require:

    • A completed National Police Check
    • A valid Working with Children Check for work within NSW. The WWCC can be for volunteers (if the student is undertaking an unpaid work placement or volunteer work) otherwise they will need to have a valid WWCC for those undertaking paid work.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Counselling qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 units of competency, including 13 core and 4 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
