Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: short answer, extended response, research tasks, multiple choice questions, assignments

  • Skills assessments: projects, case studies

  • Practical skills assessments: demonstrations under observation such as role plays

  • Simulated workplace projects: scenario-based problem solving

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

If you meet the VSL eligibility and academic suitability requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee.   • The Units of Study and associated fees for this course are detailed below. Fees are charged on the census day for each Unit of Study. To secure a loan for part or all of your course, you must be eligible and submit a valid application to the Commonwealth for a VET Student Loan. You may withdraw prior to the census date without incurring a fee.

  • ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

  • Although there are no Training Package entry requirements for this qualification, TAFE Digital has a screening process to ensure prospective learners have the pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve their chosen qualification.

  • When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. TAFE Digital has designed this online course with existing alcohol and other drugs workers in mind (please refer to the Course Description above). You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.

  • It is assumed that you have literacy, numeracy and technical skills at Certificate IV level for success in this course. Contact TAFE NSW if you have any questions about your suitability.

  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

    • a computer or regular access to a computer
    • reliable Internet and email access
    • access to an appropriate work place
    • a National Police Check and a valid Working with Children Check for work within NSW (or equivalent) prior to commencing work placement.
  • WORK PLACEMENT is a requirement of this course. You will need to complete:

    • there are no minimum workplace hours required for this course, however, to achieve competency you are required to complete a range of assessment tasks and activities in the workplace throughout the qualification.
    • you will need to find a suitable organisation to complete your work placement hours.
    • as TAFE Digital is a distance education provider, and there are no opportunities for simulated workplace situations, it is anticipated that work placement could take approximately 240 hours.
  • Work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of this course. Due to the impacts of COVID 19 and the disruption to service provision in the Early Childhood, Aged Care, Health and Community Services Sectors, there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 22 units of competency , including 16 core and 6 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Studying Online

Choose when and where you study. Set your own pace, with all your study materials online, allowing you to manage your own workload. Access your learning management system 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is a highly collaborative space that involves more than simply reading and consuming.

You will interact creatively with content, teachers and your peers, improving your overall engagement with the course. Teaching staff are available to provide you with support, enabling you meet your course outcomes.

You may need to attend a vocational placement, on campus assessment and/or a teacher might need to observe and assess you in a real or simulated environment. Online courses require access to a computer with an internet connection.
