Work placement
Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

To successfully complete this course, you will need to successfully undertake 160 hours or work placement, either by:

- being employed in a relevant position in the relevant field of industry, or
-
- undertaking work placement. The teaching section can determine who/how/when/where, within either their own networks or support the student to gain a placement for themselves at the local level

Eligibility for work placement:

Before commencement of professional experience/work placement, you are required to be eligible for:

- a completed National Criminal Record Check

- a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) for work within NSW. The WWCC can be for volunteers (if you are undertaking an unpaid work placement or volunteer work), otherwise you will need to have a valid WWCC if undertaking paid work
-
If you are a prior student undertaking any work placement or volunteer work that has been organised as part of the requirements of the Diploma in Mental Health, the WWCC is to be verified through the Office of the Children’s Guardian by TAFE NSW and stored on file.

Organisations that agree to offer work placements must also be provided with the your WWCC and reminded of their obligation to check the validity of the provided WWCC.
Units Units taught in this course
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Mental Health qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 20 units of competency, including 15 core and 5 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study
Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.
Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
