Course Details

This qualification provides a trade outcome in roof tiling for residential and commercial construction work.

The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as a specialist field of work.

The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context.

Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • an apprentice (you will work in industry and study at the same time)
  • employed full time
  • signed up with an Apprentice Network Provider and have a Training Plan Proposal
  • seeking to gain skills and knowledge to become a qualified Roof Tiler after successful completion
  • have a registered apprenticeship contract with us
  • a letter from us accepting your placement

To successfully complete this course, you are required to bring to class your own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) safety goggles, earplugs, gloves, steel capped boots, suitable work clothing and a laptop computer or PC (Windows 10) computer tablet 8 inch (min) or tablet, paper and pens, calculator, compass, ruler, steel tape 5m or 8m and the textbook - Basic Building and Construction Skills 5E edition.

Work Placement is a requirement of this course. You need to be employed as a Roof Tiling apprentice so that you will be able to practice and develop your competency in the workplace.

This is a Part Time Day Mixed Mode course. You will need to attend approximately 4.6 hours of class a week, for 4 attendance blocks per year for 2 years.

You may also be required to complete approximately 29.5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours including on the job employment as an apprentice.


This course offering is designed for people who are Roof Tiling Apprentices.


Learner support is available on a determined basis. LLN assessemnts will assist in identifying potiential individual learners needs.

It is currently scheduled wherein attendance is in blocks-4 blocks/year-4 days each Mondays-Thursdays (8 am-4.30 pm)-1st year-block start dates- 6/4/2020 - 22/6/2020 - 22/9/2020 - 23/11/2020. This timetable may change and will be confirmed.


This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
