Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: short answer, multiple-choice questions, extended response

  • Practical skills assessments: demonstrations under observation

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • There is no work placement requirement for apprentices taking this qualification, as you will gain your experience on-the-job with your employer.

  • Non-apprentices will need to be in either relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments to complete the learning and assessment requirements.

Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources to complete your study:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Steel capped safety boots, Safety glasses, Dust mask (minimum P2) and hearing protection (Ear muffs)

  • Your teacher will provide you with an equipment list after enrolment.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

    • an apprentice (you will work in industry and study at the same time)
    • or provide proof that you are currently working in the stone industry
    • employed full time
    • signed up with an Apprentice Network Provider and have a Training Plan Proposal
    • seeking to gain skills and knowledge to become a qualified Stonemason after successful completion

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Stonemasonry (Monumental stonemasonry) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 30 Units of competency, including 21 core and 9 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
