The nationally accredited Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) will further your career as a builder or construction manager. Youll learn how to own and operate your own building enterprise and take your expertise to the next level with industry-standard skills and knowledge.

TAFE NSW also offers the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) as a traineeship. To be eligible to enrol as a trainee you must:

  • Be employed in the building and constructionindustry as this course is delivered in the workplace

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements to complete your coursework.

To be able to undertake work placement you need to meet other requirements. This includes:

  • A general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card) you will need this before you can enter a construction site

WORK PLACEMENT

If you are enrolling as a non-trainee, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments to meet course completion requirements.

You must complete 200 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

You are responsible for arranging your own work placement. Our team can offer support and guidance to assist you.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

To be qualified as a licensed builder in NSW, you need to apply for a builders licence. This course meets one of the requirements to apply for your NSW Builders Licence.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part time evening, course. You will need to attend approximately 7 hours of class, over 2 evenings a week, for 54 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 20.4 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including revision, self directed activies, portfolio, research and assessment preparation.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
