As population growth drives employment in the residential construction sector, in both new dwellings and renovations, the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) will give you what you need to meet demand.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
TAFE NSW offers the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) as either a traineeship or non-traineeship, so you can?construct?the career you want.
Non-traineeship
There are no entry requirements for non-trainees. You can enrol in this course now.
Traineeship
To be eligible for this course you must:
- Be employed in the building and construction industry as this course is delivered in the workplace
- Have a signed traineeship contract

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
It is important to know that to be eligible to apply for your NSW Builders Licence, you must have completed a trade certificate in the Certificate III in Carpentry or Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying, as well as the Certificate IV in Building Construction (Building).
Completion of these qualifications will lead to a builders licence with NSW Fair-trading.
Check with the relevant state and territory licensing and regulatory authorities. State and territory jurisdictions may have different regulatory requirements.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.
To successfully complete this course, you will need:
- access to a computer, printer, software programs and reliable Internet
- to participate in a surveying practical. This practical is currently running as a 1 day session at the Strathfield campus.
The 1 day program is being conducted with 4 students only, allowing an accelerated delivery. An alternative 2 day program may be trialled at a regional campus in late 2020 or 2021, depending on the success of the Strathfield delivery. All subject to Covid 19 restrictions and protocols.
Attendance at this practical session is compulsory. All cost associated with transport and accommodation are at the students expense and additional to course fees.
All equipment for the practical session is supplied, however students will need to wear suitable attire, hat, hi-vis vest and closed footwear.

INFORMATION SESSIONS

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is an online course. You will need to complete approximately 5 hours of online study, each week, for your enrolment duration of 2 years.
You can increase the hours of online study per week to complete the course sooner.
All students are required to participate in a surveying practical. This practical is currently running as a 1 day session at the Strathfield campus. The 1 day program is being conducted with 4 students only, allowing an accelerated delivery.
You can also expect to complete approximately 2 hours of additional study each week outside of online study hours, including private study, research and assignment preparation.

This course offering is designed for people who:
- want to become licensed builders and managers of small to medium building businesses.
By completing this course, you will acquire the skills and knowledge required to coordinate the overall construction of low-rise buildings, which entails selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and financial control for successful completion of the building project.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

This training is subsidised by the NSW government under Smart and Skilled. The student fee you will need to pay, will be determined according to your personal circumstances and eligibility for a subsidised place. You may also be eligible for a concession fee, fee exemption, or fee free scholarship. Payment made by instalments is available.
