The nationally accredited Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) will further your career as a builder or construction manager. Youll learn how to own and operate your own building enterprise and take your expertise to the next level with industry-standard skills and knowledge.

  • Be employed in the building and constructionindustry as this course is delivered in the workplace

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements to complete your coursework.

To be able to undertake work placement you need to meet other requirements. This includes:

  • A general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card) you will need this before you can enter a construction site

WORK PLACEMENT

If you are enrolling as a non-trainee, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments to meet course completion requirements.

You must complete 200 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

You are responsible for arranging your own work placement. Our team can offer support and guidance to assist you.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

To be qualified as a licensed builder in NSW, you need to apply for a builders licence. This course meets one of the requirements to apply for your NSW Builders Licence.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • access to a computer, printer, software programs and reliable internet
  • to participate in a surveying practical. This practical is currently running as a 1 day session at the Strathfield campus.

The 1 day program is being conducted with 4 students only, allowing an accelerated delivery. All subject to Covid 19 restrictions and protocols.
Attendance at this practical session is compulsory. All cost associated with transport and accommodation are at the students expense and additional to course fees.

All equipment for the practical session is supplied but students will need to wear suitable attire, hat and footwear.

INFORMATION SESSIONS

There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is an online course. You will need to complete approximately 9 hours of online study, each week, for your enrolment duration of 2 years.
You can increase the hours of online study per week to complete the course sooner.

All students are required to participate in a surveying practical. This practical is currently running as a 1 day session at the Strathfield campus. The 1 day program is being conducted with 4 students only, allowing an accelerated delivery.

You can also expect to complete approximately 3 hours of additional study each week outside of online study hours, including private study, research and assignment preparation.

This is a superseded qualification which will require you to transition into the new course after September 2022 and there will be some additional work to meet the new qualification requirements.

As part of the enrolment application process, you will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment.
The result from the LLN Assessment will be discussed in a phone conversation with a teacher to confirm the suitability of this course for you.

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • want to become licensed builders and managers of small to medium building businesses.

By completing this course, you will acquire the skills and knowledge required to coordinate the overall construction of low-rise buildings, which entails selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and financial control for successful completion of the building project.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
