TAFE NSW industry trained teachers will equip you with the techniques you will need to sell, market, lease and manage real estate, within a property agency, at a supervisory level.

You will gain the essentials of:

  • Business law
  • Urban and regional planning
  • Minimise agency and consumer risk
  • Appraising property

You will also learn a range of agency administrative processes and procedures, including financial and trust accounting skills.

To be eligible for this course you must have either:

  • A NSW School Certificate or equivalent, or
  • Relevant work experience demonstrated in your resume (if you are a mature age student)


The Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) is also available as a traineeship, so you can create the career you want. Depending on the enrolment you choose you will need to provide evidence that you meet all relevant entry criteria.

In addition to the requirements above, students enrolling in a traineeship must also:

  • Be employed in property industry as this course is delivered in the workplace
  • Have a signed traineeship contract


Work experience provides you with exposure to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment.

Work experience is not mandatory for this qualification; however, this is a highly practical course. We strongly recommend you undertake 40 hours of work experience with a suitable industry employer.

You are responsible for arranging your own work experience. Our SkillsTeam can offer support and guidance to assist you.


To be prepared for this course, it is recommended that you:

  • Want to build your career in real estate
  • Have intermediate digital skills (including using the internet, word processing and spreadsheets)
  • Have good time management skills

New real estate legislation was introduced in NSW on 23 March 2020.

You need a certificate of registration to work as an Assistant Agent in a real estate agency. To be eligible to apply for this certificate of registration, you must complete the 5 core units of Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice (CPP41419):

  • CPPREP4001 - Prepare for professional practice in real estate
  • CPPREP4002 - Access and interpret ethical practice in real estate
  • CPPREP4003 - Access and interpret legislation in real estate
  • CPPREP4004 - Establish marketing and communication profiles in real estate
  • CPPREP4005 - Prepare to work with real estate trust accounts

This course does not fully align to the new licensing legislation and regulations, however there is a bridging course. You can complete these units of competency through the Statement of Attainment in Real Estate Practice (Assistant Agent) and apply for your certificate of registration then.

There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course.

This is a Full Time Face to Face course. You will need to attend approximately 24 hours of class over 18 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 6.7 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including assignment preparation, private study, research, online activities.

  • Students undertaking this qualification are seeking to obtain knowledge and skills to work in the real estate and property industry. Learners may also be looking at upskilling their previous qualifications or basically to obtain a qualification to recognise their work experience.

To keep you safe while studying, some of our face to face classes may be replaced with online or connected learning. We have also modified our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. As restrictions ease, the way you attend your class may change again. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID 19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 am to 3:30 pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.


This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:
You are required to provide your own writing materials such as folder (for handouts or notes), calculate, notebook, pens and pencil and USB for storage of learning resources provided via the online Moodle and also work completed by you in class.
