TAFE NSW industry trained teachers will equip you with the techniques you will need to sell, market, lease and manage real estate, within a property agency, at a supervisory level.

You will gain the essentials of:

  • Business law
  • Urban and regional planning
  • Minimise agency and consumer risk
  • Appraising property

You will also learn a range of agency administrative processes and procedures, including financial and trust accounting skills.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for this course you must have either:

  • A NSW School Certificate or equivalent, or
  • Relevant work experience demonstrated in your resume (if you are a mature age student)

Traineeship

The Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) is also available as a traineeship, so you can create the career you want. Depending on the enrolment you choose you will need to provide evidence that you meet all relevant entry criteria.

In addition to the requirements above, students enrolling in a traineeship must also:

  • Be employed in property industry as this course is delivered in the workplace
  • Have a signed traineeship contract

WORK EXPERIENCE

Work experience provides you with exposure to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment.

Work experience is not mandatory for this qualification; however, this is a highly practical course. We strongly recommend you undertake 40 hours of work experience with a suitable industry employer.

You are responsible for arranging your own work experience. Our SkillsTeam can offer support and guidance to assist you.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

New real estate legislation was introduced in NSW on 23 March 2020.

You need a certificate of registration to work as an Assistant Agent in a real estate agency. To be eligible to apply for this certificate of registration, you must complete the 5 core units of Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice (CPP41419):

  • CPPREP4001 - Prepare for professional practice in real estate
  • CPPREP4002 - Access and interpret ethical practice in real estate
  • CPPREP4003 - Access and interpret legislation in real estate
  • CPPREP4004 - Establish marketing and communication profiles in real estate
  • CPPREP4005 - Prepare to work with real estate trust accounts

This course does not fully align to the new licensing legislation and regulations, however there is a bridging course. You can complete these units of competency through the Statement of Attainment in Real Estate Practice (Assistant Agent) and apply for your certificate of registration then.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • an apprentice / trainee (you will work in industry and study at the same time)
  • employed full time
  • signed up with an Apprentice Network Provider and have a Training Plan Proposal
  • seeking to gain skills and knowledge to become a qualified Assistant real estate agent/broker, licensee operative, potential licenced real
    estate agent, supervisor, team leader, commissioned property worker and property manager. after successful completion.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:
You will need successfully complete all assessment events.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part time, face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 13 hours of class, over 1 day a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 3 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 3.5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including independent study, research, practice and assignments.

If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID 19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled for 3 days a week. An individual training plan will be provided when you enrol in this course. Your plan will outline the recommended study timetable and detail your units and assessments.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
