The nationally accredited Certificate II in Music Industry is an entry level course for those looking to explore career options in the music industry. You will gain a strong foundation in music essentials including performing, staging and recording. You dont need any experience, just a keen ear and a passion for music.

Take our Music Industry study pathway with the Certificate III, Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Music Industry.
You can also choose to study specialised music disciplines like Sound Production, Music Business and Performance at Certificate III to Advanced Diploma level; and Electronic Music Production at both Diploma and Advanced Diploma level.
The industry is changing with increased profits and growth. Plus, self-publishing and social media are allowing artists to have control over their work. The Certificate II is the first step in the suite of music qualifications offered by TAFE NSW designed to prepare you for a career in the evolving music industry.

This is a full time blended delivery course. You will need to attend approximately 16 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 12 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 18.3 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 8.3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including preparing for gigs, listening to music, writing music or lyrics, going to gigs and events and/or participating in a range of independent creative projects.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
This course offering is designed for people who:
- Want to work in the music industry, have a love of music, want some basic practical skills in playing music or recording and or may be undecided about whether they wish to pursue this career path and want an overview of possible opportunities for further training or employment. Students will be engaged in a combination of online learning for the compulsory theory components of the course and on-campus classes for all practical learning. With the relaxed COVID-19 restrictions continuing in Newcastle, we can ensure that you will be on-campus for 80% of your training.

To keep you safe while studying, some of our face to face classes may be replaced with online or connected learning. We have also modified our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. As restrictions ease, the way you attend your class may change again. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID-19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.
This course is currently scheduled on Monday and Tuesday from 9.30am to 5.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
