Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are developing a range of art and craft skills in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural arts context and who take responsibility for own outputs in work and learning. Practice at this level is underpinned by the application of introductory art theory and cultural history.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a block release face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 28 hours of class, over 4 days a week, for 5 weeks.

Block Dates:
Block 1: 2nd - 5th March 2020
Block 2: 30th March - 2nd April
Block 3: 27th - 30th April
Block 4: 18th - 21st May
Block 5: 15th - 18th June

This is a block release face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 28 hours of class, over 4 days a week, for 5 blocks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 18 hours of other study per week (including weeks you are not attending face to face classes).

You may also be required to complete approximately 17 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including research, assessment preparation, arts practice, exhibition preparation (including weeks you are not attending face to face classes)

This course is delivered in Away From Base mode and is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live in NSW, meet AbStudy eligibility, meet Smart and Skilled eligibility, and are available for the duration of the course. AFB involves studying via online learning combined with intensive residential blocks.
Tutorial support is offered face-to-face, online or in group tuition sessions, or a combination of delivery modes. Government funding supports the travel, accommodation and meal costs for AbStudy compliant students participating in the intensive block.

This course is delivered in Away From Base mode and is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live in NSW, meet AbStudy eligibility, meet Smart and Skilled eligibility, and are available for the duration of the course. AFB involves studying via online learning combined with intensive residential blocks.

This course is the perfect next step for those students who have already have interest and skills in cultural and arts practice.
You will now cover a broad range of skills required to succeed in the creative industries, including:

  • Drawing
  • Printmaking
  • Sculpture
  • Ceramics
  • Cultural & Identity studies
  • Career advancement skills and more
    You will gain significant experience in creating works for exhibition, working with tools and arts equipment, and collaborating with other artists.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday from 9.00am to 4.00pm for 5 block sessions.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
