The nationally accredited Certificate III in Design Fundamentals prepares you to start a career in the creative industries. Specialise in your creative passion, get your foot in the door of the design industry, and develop the foundational skills to bring your artistic vision to life.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to:

  • undertake a LLN test as part of orientation or application processes to ensure the correct entry level.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:
-Learners are required to have basic literacy and numeracy skills and basic computer skills on entry to this course.

These skills will be obtained at school level as all learners will have at least year 10 or equivalent.

We require learners to sit an LLN assessment before the start of classes.
If they do not have the required levels, we ask them to complete further preliminary study which adds to the volume of learning.
The program has been developed for full time student and will be delivered over 18 weeks, 18 hours per week in class 3 days per week face to face (including workplace simulations) and some blended delivery.

The delivery and content of this course has been discussed with industry who support the amount of hours of learning for this qualification.
Other supervised activities include; (homework, excursions, exhibitions, field trips, industry talks, open studio classes, Moodle forums, tasks & projects) to approx. 324 training hours and approx. 162 hours of assessment. Another 238 + plus hours is completed via self-complete work.
Volume of Learning requirements are met in a variety of learning modes - by allowing for self-directed learning through Moodle Resources and Library guides, designing activities and project work that requires learning outside of class hours and by taking learners on excursions and industry visits.

INFORMATION SESSIONS

Please attend an orientation session on Wednesday, 23 June 2021 from 10:00am to 11:30pm at TAFE NSW Campbelltown, Building M, Room M1.17 and M1.19 First Floor, Building M, 181 Narellan Rd, Campbelltown.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full-time course. You will need to attend approximately 17 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 13 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research and assessment preparation.

-The course is designed as a foundation and feeds directly into the Diploma of Visual Arts CUA51115 and Advanced Diploma Visual Arts CUA60715.
-The majority of the learners have just completed high school, while others are looking for a career change.

The way you learn may change during your enrolment to ensure the best learning experience or to keep you safe as COVID-19 restrictions change, and some of our face to face classes may change to online or virtual classroom learning. Also, to ensure that we keep you safe while studying, we may modify our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am to 4:30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

  • You may be required to purchase clay at $30 a bag, or $10 per bag for recycled clay, plus some other art materials.
  • Students are required to purchase the following resources prior to commencing the course: A4 Visual Arts Diary, USB, 2 x 2B Lead pencils, coloured pencils, set of 12 water colours, black fineliner, rubber and pencil sharpener, scalpel, double sided tape and a A4 folder with plastic sleeves to store drawings.
