This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural arts context and produce work that shows a well-developed command of technique in their chosen art form.
Practice at this level is underpinned by application of broad and integrated technical and theoretical knowledge and the ability to analyse and use information from a range of sources.
There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course.
This is a Full-Time blended course. You will need to attend approximately 24 hours of class, over 4 days a week, for 15 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 15 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 6 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including Assessment preparation, research, visual diary documentation, arts practice, exhibition preparation

-This course is delivered in Away From Base mode and is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live in NSW, meet AbStudy eligibility, meet Smart and Skilled eligibility, and are available for the duration of the course. AFB involves studying via online learning combined with intensive residential blocks.
Tutorial support is offered face-to-face, online or in group tuition sessions, or a combination of delivery modes. Government funding supports the travel, accommodation and meal costs for AbStudy compliant students participating in the intensive block.
ABOUT CERTIFICATE IV ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER CULTURAL ARTS
This course is the perfect next step for those students who have already have some skills and experience in cultural and arts practice.
You will now cover a broad range of skills required to succeed in the creative industries, including:
- Printmaking & Drawing
- Cultural & Identity studies
- Career advancement skills and more
You will gain significant experience in creating works for exhibition, working with tools and arts equipment, and collaborating with other artists.

To keep you safe while studying, some of our face to face classes may be replaced with online or connected learning. We have also modified our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. As restrictions ease, the way you attend your class may change again. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID 19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.
This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9.00am to 4.00pm in 6 blocks. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
