This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply a broad range of technical skills in photo imaging, including lighting, image capture, enhancements and manipulation and output.
Practice at this level is predominately digital. It is underpinned by the application of integrated technical, theoretical and historical knowledge of photo imaging and the ability to develop concepts and solutions in response to a brief.
Practitioners may work in a range of industry contexts, including retail, commercial, domestic portrait, media, wedding, illustrative, institutional and art photography.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

This is a Full Time course. You will need to attend approximately 22.2 hours of class over 3-4 days a week for 18 weeks.
As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 12 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 16 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study (homework), assignment preparation, work experience, field trips, exhibitions and research.

This course offering is designed for people wanting a career in photography.
They are usually school leavers, but some are seeking a career change.
Once complete, learners could enrol into the course CUA50915 Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging.
At the completion of the qualification, the learners may work in a range of industry contexts including commercial, domestic portrait, media, wedding, illustrative, institutional and art photography.

To keep you safe while studying, some of our face to face classes may be replaced with online or connected learning. We have also modified our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. As restrictions ease, the way you attend your class may change again. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID-19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.
This course is currently scheduled on Monday to Thursday from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher. Days of attendance may change depending on staff availability and number of classes.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

Students are required to purchase the following resources prior to commencing the course:
- A4 Visual Arts Diary
- black fineliner
- A4 folder with plastic sleeves to store handouts
Students should have access to a digital camera and Portable HDD for use in class and for assessments. Students should also have access to a computer or laptop with appropriate software for using outside of class time.Other photographic equipment will be discussed at Orientation.
