Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use basic skills and a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of contexts in the screen, media and entertainment industries. They apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others.

Licensing/Regulatory Information
National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work

The National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work applies to persons performing dogging and rigging work. Completion of the following units is required for certification at either basic, intermediate or advanced levels:
- CPCCLDG3001A Licence to perform dogging
- CPCCLRG3001A Licence to perform rigging basic level
- CPCCLRG3002A Licence to perform rigging intermediate level
- CPCCLRG4001A Licence to perform rigging advanced level.

National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work
Sets and staging for some performances or events may fall within the definition of construction work. If so, people entering the construction site are required to complete the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (Australian Safety Compensation Council, May 2007). Achievement of the unit 'CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry' from the CPC08 Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package fulfils this requirement.

INTRO to SOUND DESIGN and IMMERSIVE SOUND

Start your training in the exciting world of audio production for media, TV and film. This course is designed for people who love audio production but want to specialise in sound design, dialogue for film (ADR), creating soundtracks/soundscapes and being one of the first to learn about immersive sound. Your training will centre on the AVIS S6 consoles located in one of the best equipped training studios in Australia. Currently, TAFE NSW (Newcastle Campus), is the only provider of training in Immersive Sound.

A pre-requisite for this course is Certificate IV in Sound Production or Screen and Media, or 2+ years in audio production.

15 hours of unstructured work per week is also required, consisting of: assessments, rehearsals, industry visits and music events.

TAFE NSW NORTH (Newcastle) is an Official Avid?Authorised Training Partner with fully accredited Pro Tools trainers at 300 level, making it the leading provider of training of AVID Pro Tools in Australia. There are two recording studios, one has the world famous SSL Duality console and the other boasts an AVID S6 Post Production suite. There is a range of instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars, amps, acoustic and electric drum kits, keyboards, microphones, mixing consoles and P.A systems.


A message for young people under 17 years of age - If you are under 17 years and wish to enrol you will need to have completed Year 10 or have special permission from school and TAFE NSW to do so.
16 hours of class-activities are currently scheduled Wednesday and Thursday, 9.30am to 5.30pm. Group projects, assessments and portfolio work between 25-30 hours and self-paced learning (recording projects, gaming workshops) for 15 hours.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience your fee may decrease from the maximum shown.
Payment by instalment may also be available. Your fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

Costs associated with work experience and field trips such as food, transport and accommodation are at the students own expense.
