The nationally accredited Certificate IV in Screen and Media is designed to give you practical sought-after skills in your specialised screen and media area. Learn from experts and put your passion for creativity and storytelling to use in this dynamic and evolving field.


Through a mix of theory and practical coursework, learn to:

  • A desire to move into one of these exciting creative fields: animation, digital media, film and TV production, sound design, radio journalism or radio broadcasting, social media
  • An interest in, or understanding of, the skills and knowledge required in industry
  • Completed a Certificate III in Screen and Media or have equivalent industry experience

  • A drive for capturing a story for screen or TV

This is a full time, face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 17 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 2 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 15 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, work experience, research and assignment preparation.


This course offering is designed for people who:

  • have completed the Certificate III in Screen and Media. The Certificate III Screen and Media contains content that is fundamental to the continued advancement of these qualifications i.e. the Certificate III promote skills such as production, camera. lighting and editing as well as use of equipment and the ability to articulate ideas

The secondary group may consist of school leavers, people out of work looking to change career direction or looking to build on existing skills, international students. Students will be interviewed as necessary and will be screened for language and literacy in order to offer assistance if required.

The areas covered in this course include; production operations, camera, lighting, advanced video editing, location sound recording, sound editing, and digital effects. This course sets the foundation for further study and a career in the film/video industry.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, from 9.00am to 4.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.


This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
