The nationally accredited Certificate IV in Screen and Media is designed to give you practical sought-after skills in your specialised screen and media area. Learn from experts and put your passion for creativity and storytelling to use in this dynamic and evolving field.


Through a mix of theory and practical coursework, learn to:

  • An interest in, or understanding of, the skills and knowledge required in industry
  • Completed a Certificate III in Screen and Media or have equivalent industry experience

To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • There are no Training Package entry requirements for this qualification however, students should have completed IT related studies such as Certificate III in Information, Digital Media & Technology, Certificate III in Screen and Media or have equivalent skills. Students may alternatively have completed Digital Media in related studies at the HSC or equivalent level.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • a medium level of literacy and to work independently with little supervision. You are required to pass all assessments and meet the deadline of assginment submission.

This course focuses on digital content production. You will learn about the different forms of digital media, and will gain the skills and knowledge to help you understand how to create and edit images, sound, video, 2D/3D animation across a broad range of platforms. Learn what makes digital media work, and feel comfortable with its many forms.

This is an online course. You will need to study approximately 9 hours of course work a week, for 36 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 8.4 hours of additional study each week, including private study, research, assignment preparation..


Students will learn to create and edit digital images, 2D and 3D animations, digital visual effects, author interactive media, create storyboards, edit sound and video content, produce interactive projects, and much more.

The employment pathways available to students who complete this course include: digital media developer for marketing, multimedia designer, animation assistant, advertising, publicity.

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
