Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use basic skills and a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of contexts in the screen, media and entertainment industries. They apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others.

Licensing/Regulatory Information
National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work

The National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work applies to persons performing dogging and rigging work. Completion of the following units is required for certification at either basic, intermediate or advanced levels:

  • CPCCLDG3001A Licence to perform dogging
  • CPCCLRG3001A Licence to perform rigging basic level
  • CPCCLRG3002A Licence to perform rigging intermediate level
  • CPCCLRG4001A Licence to perform rigging advanced level.

National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work
Sets and staging for some performances or events may fall within the definition of construction work. If so, people entering the construction site are required to complete the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (Australian Safety Compensation Council, May 2007). Achievement of the unit 'CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry' from the CPC08 Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package fulfils this requirement.

  • ANIMATION and VISUAL EFFECTS are the focus of this Certificate IV in Screen and Media. There is no pre-requisite.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • Most learners are expected to have a medium level of computer skills, literacy and to work independently with little supervision.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time, mixed mode course. You will need to attend approximately 25.5 hours of class, over 3-4 days a week, for 17 weeks/ 4 months.

You may also be required to complete approximately 12.1 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including self-paced study, research and practice at home or on campus to adequately develop and refine your practical projects and assignments.

  • This course, delivered at Ultimo TAFE, has an animation and visual effects focus and is aimed at people wishing to begin a career in the digital, animation and interactive media industry and work in various roles including graphic designer, web designer, 3D modeller, 3D animator, data wrangler and digital media generalist. The geographic location of the college and ease of transport attracts students from all over Sydney.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. The timetable may include day and evening classes plus online learning.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
