Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who combine specialised technical, creative and conceptual skills to plan and realise a body of work in one or more art forms. Mediums may include ceramics, drawing and illustration, painting, photomedia, printmaking, public art, sculpture, textile design, wood design, digital art and glasswork.

Practice at this level is underpinned by application of arts theory and history and the ability to critically analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources. Discourse around complex ideas is also required.

Visual artists may work in their own practice, or in a wide range of contexts across the arts, government, community or commercial organisations.

To enter this qualification, individuals must have the technical and organisational skills to conceptualise and create works in selected medium. Those skills and knowledge may have been acquired through experience in creative practice or through formal study.

** STUDY COMMITMENT **

This is a part-time day face-to-face course. You will need to attend approximately 6 hours of class a week over 2 days per week. Plus 3 hours of independent study outside of class hours.

IF TIMETABLE IS AVAILABLE: Classes are currently scheduled to begin Monday from 10.00am, at TAFE NSW Wagga Wagga. Part-time attendance is two days per week for 60 weeks (Semester 1 and 2 attendance is Tuesday and Thursday. Semester 3 and 4 attendance is Monday and Wednesday). The timetable is subject to change and will be confirmed by your teacher on your first day.

** IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU? **

The Diploma of Visual Art Full Time Day will be used predom inately by individuals looking to learn the role of an artist; specialising in technical, creative and conceptual skills to develop their own artistic practice. This qualification is part of the CUA Creative Arts and Culture Training package. It is for people seeking employment in the arts related industry as sole practitioners or with galleries or arts organisations that design and produce artistic or functional art and/or teach in a range of community contexts.

Students will gain competencies required by an artist working in these areas. Practice at this level is underpinned by a sound grasp of artistic practice; including broader art and design theory and history, as well as the ability to critically analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources. Discourse and communication around complex ideas are also required. They will acquire skills and knowledge required to plan, design and realise a body of creative work using in-depth skills specific to the arts industry, materials and processes within work, health and safety guidelines.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

  • Art Materials: approximately $50.00.

To complete your VET Student Loan application, you will need to provide:

  • Your Tax File Number (TFN). If you dont have a TFN, click here for information on how to apply for one. You can complete your loan application with a Certificate of Application for a TFN, but must provide your TFN as soon as it is issued. If you dont provide your TFN before your first census day, you will need to pay the tuition fees for that unit of study.
  • Your Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) ). If you have previously accessed a loan via the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP), either at TAFE or university, you will already have a CHESSN. You must use the same CHESSN whenever you access a student loan. If you dont have CHESSN, we will allocate one on your behalf.
To be eligible for a VET Student Loan, you will need to be assessed as academically suitable to undertake high level VET study. You will need to provide:
  • A copy of your Australian Year 12 Certificate; OR
  • A copy of a certificate showing that you have been awarded a qualification at level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework (where the language of instruction was English). If you previously completed a Certificate IV or higher qualification at TAFE NSW, just let us know where and when you studied in your application; OR
  • Display competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy through an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. We will let you know if this is required once you apply.
