ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be selected for a place in this course, you need to demonstrate the following:

  • Technical production skills in at least one of the following areas through a portfolio of work: costume, lighting, screen and media, production design, scenery and props, sound, stage management, staging or vision systems
  • That you have completed unit CUAWHS302 - Apply work health and safety practices, and can provide a transcript as evidence, or you can demonstrate equivalent non-accredited experience through a copy of your qualifications or a letter from your employer

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • An ability to perform creative manual work, which can include lifting and carrying
  • The ability to operate standard design software like the Adobe Creative Cloud suite
  • A capacity to work off site at various locations outside of your TAFE NSW campus
  • A white card or be willing to gain a white card to access some production venues

Electrical work

In some States and Territories of Australia a restricted electrical licence is required. Restricted electrical licences allow a person to carry out electrical work incidental to a trade. Incidental work may include fault-finding on equipment or changing like for like equipment by disconnecting and reconnecting the fixed wiring. It does not include any other changes to the fixed wiring.

National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work

The National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work applies to persons performing dogging and rigging work. Completion of the following units is required for certification at either basic, intermediate or advanced levels.

CPCCLDG3001A Licence to perform dogging
CPCCLRG3001A Licence to perform rigging basic level
CPCCLRG3002A Licence to perform rigging intermediate level
CPCCLRG4001A Licence to perform rigging advanced level.
National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work

Sets and staging for some performances or events may fall within the definition of construction work. If so, people entering the construction site are required to complete the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (Australian Safety Compensation Council, May 2007).

Achievement of the unit 'CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry' from the CPC08 Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package fulfils this requirement.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • experienced industry professionals who are seeking recognition of the skills and knowledge (RPL).

This is an Advanced Diploma level qualification. Although this course has no official entry requirements, sensibly, there are some criteria that applicants must be able to demonstrate.

Successful applicants will have a demonstrable body of professional expertise in the live production industry. This expertise must be associated with both mastery of technical operation of live production technology and developed skills in entertainment production management practice. The course is structured with elective packages to suit both technical operators and live production managers.

This course is designed to assess the evidence you provide that supports your professional practice in live production technical operation and live production management. To meet this objective, you will compile a portfolio of documents that tells the story of your accumulated experience.

TAFE will provide guides and documents to assist this process and will review your portfolio against the requirements of the National qualification Framework course units and make a determination regarding granting of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for this qualification.

INFORMATION SESSIONS

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time, workbased course. You will need to complete approximately 1 hour of online study, each week, for your enrolment duration of 18 weeks. As well as the online component, there is a requirement to do 0.8 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 3.3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research, skills practice, volountary work in related areas, networking and other releated entertainment industry activities.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • are experienced industry professionals who are seeking recognition of the skills and knowledge (RPL).
  • are employed in live production technical operation and live production management.

This course covers level 5 and level 6 skills in Live Production and Management practice. This is an Advanced Diploma level qualification. This course does not have any tuition related to the course subject matter however there is support for the process of creating a portfolio of evidence of professional practice.

The course has a range of elective options suited to common Live Production professional role. Selection of these electives will be undertaken upon consultation between TAFE staff and student candidates following enrolment.

As this is a portfolio assessed course candidates must have access to computing technology and the internet and must supply all materials and data capabilities to compile a professional portfolio.

To complete your VET Student Loan application, you will need to provide:

  • Your Tax File Number (TFN). If you dont have a TFN, click here for information on how to apply for one. You can complete your loan application with a Certificate of Application for a TFN, but must provide your TFN as soon as it is issued. If you dont provide your TFN before your first census day, you will need to pay the tuition fees for that unit of study.
  • Your Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) ). If you have previously accessed a loan via the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP), either at TAFE or university, you will already have a CHESSN. You must use the same CHESSN whenever you access a student loan. If you dont have CHESSN, we will allocate one on your behalf.
To be eligible for a VET Student Loan, you will need to be assessed as academically suitable to undertake high level VET study. You will need to provide:
  • A copy of your Australian Year 12 Certificate; OR
  • A copy of a certificate showing that you have been awarded a qualification at level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework (where the language of instruction was English). If you previously completed a Certificate IV or higher qualification at TAFE NSW, just let us know where and when you studied in your application; OR
  • Display competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy through an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. We will let you know if this is required once you apply.
