Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have highly specialised technical, creative and conceptual skills in visual communication to conceive, negotiate and realise design solutions.

Practice at this level is underpinned by the application of visual communication and design theory and history and the ability to critically analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources. Advanced communication, organisational and project management skills are also required.

Practitioners may work in many different commercial and community contexts across both print and digital media.

To enter this qualification, individuals must provide evidence of their ability to: - apply visual communication history and theory to own professional practice - produce professional typography - produce graphic designs for two-dimensional and three-dimensional applications - create and manipulate graphics and design complex publication layouts

Skills and knowledge may have been acquired through graphic design work experience or through formal study.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are: - A Diploma of Graphic Design or equivalent study or work experience is a pre-requisite for entry into this course.

Individuals must provide evidence of their technical skills and ability to:
? Produce multiple examples of graphic design work that respond effectively to different design challenges
? Produce typography that supports the overall design solution
? Use graphic design industry software.
The entry requirements may have been acquired through personal or work experience, or through formal study

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Full Time, Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 15 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 34 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 6 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 4.5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, creative processes including research.


IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

  • The majority of Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design students will have completed the Diploma of Graphic Design or have equivalent educational or workplace experience.
  • Ages and life experience vary considerably but all students have previous design or design education experience. This course is also a pathway to higher education graphic design courses.
  • The student cohort builds on skills gained in Diploma of Graphic Design. Studios and projects reflect the workplace roles of graphic designers who have a command of wide-ranging, specialised technical, creative and conceptual skills and knowledge in visual communication.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9.00am to 5.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

Computers and access to industry software are provided for those classes where you are learning technical skills. It is recommended that you have your own laptop with industry standard software. Some materials and resources for printing and producing project work are provided onsite. There is no materials fee for this course. You may need to purchase your own additional materials and resources for project work.
