Course Details
The nationally accredited Advanced Diploma of Music Industry (Performance) is designed to take your knowledge and experience to a professional level in the global music industry. Go on to become a professional singer, songwriter or musician with the skills to record and perform your work.
This course is superseded. You can still enrol in this course, and you will be contacted if you need to transition into the next version when it is available.
When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
- Completed your Diploma of Music Industry (Performance) or have an equivalent level of experience (this may be assessed by an audition or submission of a portfolio)
- An ability to either play an instrument, perform as a vocalist or an ability to compose music or songs, with three years of experience performing or composing
- Music theory knowledge at an Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) Third Grade level
- Knowledge of music copyright, such as copyright documentation, national and international protection, and assignment and licensing of copyright
- Digital competency, literacy and numeracy skills at a Year 12 or equivalent level

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.
This course offering is designed for people who:
- have completed a Diploma of Music Industry (Performance) or have the equivalent knowledge, ability and experience.
- Whilst there is no pre-requisite to study Advanced Diploma, we highly recommend that you complete Diploma of Music Industry, or equivalent before attempting the Advanced Diploma of Music Industry.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a full time, on campus course. You must attend approximately 16 hours of class. You may also be required to complete approximately 12 hours of additional study. This additional study could include private study, work placements and research.
The course will run 2-3 days a week for 33 weeks.

We typically offer 3 groups of classes where the timetable differs by the days of the week you should attend. For example Group A: Mon, Tue, Wed. Group B: Wed, Thur, Fri, Group C: Tue, Wed, Thur. Indicative timetables only. All students should attend classes for 16 hours per week.
Music Performance is the focus of this Advanced Diploma of Music Industry
This course is designed for people who have significant prior experience in music performance, playing an instrument, sing or rap. You will build extended and advanced skills, knowledge and experience playing your instrument, writing songs, performing live, using advanced music theory, building your career, making professional recordings, releasing music, and making a music video.
We highly recommend that you complete the Diploma of Music before undertaking Advanced Diploma. We have a screening process for enrolment into Advanced Diploma. Prior knowledge and skills are required to successfully complete an Advanced Diploma level course.

The way you learn may change during your enrolment to ensure the best learning experience or to keep you safe as COVID-19 restrictions change, and some of our face to face classes may change to online or virtual classroom learning. Also, to ensure that we keep you safe while studying, we may modify our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.
This course is currently scheduled on Monday and Thursday with day classes and Wednesday with morning classes. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

PAYMENT OPTIONS AND ASSISTANCE
This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan (VSL). If you meet the VSL eligibility and academic suitability requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee. We will ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process.
To complete your VET Student Loan application, you will need to provide:
- Your Tax File Number (TFN). If you dont have a TFN, click here for information on how to apply for one. You can complete your loan application with a Certificate of Application for a TFN, but must provide your TFN as soon as it is issued. If you dont provide your TFN before your first census day, you will need to pay the tuition fees for that unit of study.
- Your Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) ). If you have previously accessed a loan via the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP), either at TAFE or university, you will already have a CHESSN. You must use the same CHESSN whenever you access a student loan. If you dont have CHESSN, we will allocate one on your behalf.
- A copy of your Australian Year 12 Certificate; OR
- A copy of a certificate showing that you have been awarded a qualification at level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework (where the language of instruction was English). If you previously completed a Certificate IV or higher qualification at TAFE NSW, just let us know where and when you studied in your application; OR
- Display competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy through an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. We will let you know if this is required once you apply.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:
- Additional costs and materials required to successfully complete this course possibly include the use of a musical instrument outside of class hours, and computer or iPad to write and record music.
- Music DAW software such as GarageBand, Logic Pro or Ableton Live are all useful for your studies and available for a reduced price as a student.
- It may be beneficial to have access to a musical instrument. Many of these are available at TAFE to use during class hours.
