INDUSTRY DEMAND

The art industry is craving individuals who have the skills and knowledge to confidently and independently work across a variety of art forums, using modern and contemporary approaches.

To be selected for a place in this course, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Conceptual, technical and organisational skills to create and present work in your chosen creative form

You will have gained these skills through formal study or from your experience in a creative field.

Evidence required

  • Transcript of your TAFE NSW Diploma of Visual Arts or a nationally recognised equivalent Diploma or proof of proficiency of your creative skills from independent or non-accredited study or
  • A resume outlining your experience in a creative field or
  • A portfolio that communicates your creative journey and the results. This can be presented face-to-face (at the time of enrolment) or electronically. You can submit photography or videos demonstrating your process, concepts, designs and plans or creative journals

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have the ability to successfully complete the course via an application portfolio of work presented at interview, or via the successful completion of the Diploma of Visual Arts. You may undertake a LLN test as part of orientation or application processes to ensure the correct entry level.

To successfully complete this course, you will needattend class regularly and paricipate in the class activities. You will need to spend up to approximately 30 hours per week in total on your course work including face to face and self -directed learning.

INFORMATION SESSIONS

There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Part Time Day Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 8.5 hours of class a week for 2 years (72 weeks). As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 2.9 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 5.2 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours may include private study, research and assessment preparation.

Your exact timetable will be given to you at orientation, and will depend on the electives you have chosen. Your timetable will be 1.5 days per week including Wednesdays.

Printmaking is timetabled on Mondays 9 am to 3 pm. Painting is on Tuesdays 10 am to 4 pm. Ceramics is on Thursdays 9 am to 4 pm. Photography is on Fridays 9 am to 4 pm.

Core subjects are delivered on Wednesdays from 9 am 12 noon, 12.30 pm to 4 pm. You will need to undertake self-directed study in your own time.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This course qualification reflects the role of individuals who have para-professional level technical creative and conceptual skills to originate, realise and exhibit a substantial body of resolved work that reflects their own creative vision. Visual Artists work within and across many mediums and at Nepean Arts and Design Centre we offer electives in the Advanced Diploma in ceramics, painting, printmaking, and photography. In addition, learners undertake core studies in drawing and art history /theory.

This qualification provides advanced entry into the Bachelor of Creative Practice.

You will need to purchase art materials in order to complete your course. Exact costs wil vary according to personal choices but may be up to approximately $500 over the duration of your course.

To complete your VET Student Loan application, you will need to provide:

  • Your Tax File Number (TFN). If you dont have a TFN, click here for information on how to apply for one. You can complete your loan application with a Certificate of Application for a TFN, but must provide your TFN as soon as it is issued. If you dont provide your TFN before your first census day, you will need to pay the tuition fees for that unit of study.
  • Your Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) ). If you have previously accessed a loan via the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP), either at TAFE or university, you will already have a CHESSN. You must use the same CHESSN whenever you access a student loan. If you dont have CHESSN, we will allocate one on your behalf.
To be eligible for a VET Student Loan, you will need to be assessed as academically suitable to undertake high level VET study. You will need to provide:
  • A copy of your Australian Year 12 Certificate; OR
  • A copy of a certificate showing that you have been awarded a qualification at level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework (where the language of instruction was English). If you previously completed a Certificate IV or higher qualification at TAFE NSW, just let us know where and when you studied in your application; OR
  • Display competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy through an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. We will let you know if this is required once you apply.
