Course Details

This qualification describes the skills and knowledge of a baker who bakes bread, cake, pastry and biscuit products working in a commercial baking environment.

All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, in accordance with State/Territory food safety, and work health and safety, regulations and legislation that apply to the workplace.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • This is an apprentice only course, for industry apprentices signed up with an employer
  • employed full time
  • signed up with an Apprentice Network Provider and have a Training Plan Proposal
  • seeking to gain skills and knowledge to become a qualified professional after successful completion (e.g. carpenter, electrician, hairdresser, etc.)

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • to complete all unit assessments to a satisfactory industry standard.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part-time day blended course. You will need to attend approximately 7 hours of class, over 1 days a week, for 75 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 12 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, work experience and research. (independent study, research, practice and assignments).

Day & time of attendance may vary from Monday to Friday, Class time: 08:00am to 4:00pm OR 1:30pm to 9:30pm. Please note classes are held at either Ryde or Meadowbank campus.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

There are a range of study options for NSW Apprentices and eligible non-apprentices with relevant industry work experience in this course.

Under the NSW Government fee-free apprenticeship initiative, NSW apprentices that commence their training on or after 1 July 2018 may be eligible for fee-free training. Apprentices are required to provide evidence of their NSW apprenticeship to finalise their enrolment and applicable fees.

This course is also a TAFE NSW Trade Pathways Qualification and ideal if you have been working in this industry for an extended period of time but havent received a qualification. To be eligible to enrol as a non-apprentice and secure funding, you must firstly meet the Smart and Skilled eligibility criteria and be:

  • over 21 years of age
  • able to demonstrate and provide evidence of extensive industry experience and
  • able to demonstrate relevant ongoing work experience and provide workplace evidence to support the achievement of competence.

In addition you are required to purchase personal uniform, footwear and toolkit for this course at a total cost from approximately $450. Uniform, footwear and tools are required from the first lesson and all practical classes. Further information is provided with your timetable.
