Course Details

This qualification reflects the job roles of workers in the accounting industry, including BAS Agents and contract bookkeepers; and of those employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries. It includes preparing and lodging business and instalment activity statements, and providing advice or dealing with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to activity statements.

Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist knowledge and skills to work autonomously, and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, it is assumed that you have literacy, numeracy and technical skills at a Certificate III level for success in this course. Contact your TAFE NSW campus if you have any questions about your suitability.

Persons providing a business activity statement (BAS) service for a fee or other reward must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the TPB education requirements for registration. Other conditions apply, including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the TPB, as registration requirements are reviewed regularly.

CIV Accounting and Bookkeeping is a blended course. This mode of delivery uses a combination of the following methods. After enrolment students are given access to the online Moodle resource and provided with an individual training plan. In addition workshops are held once per month with each workshop focusing on a particular unit from the course. The workshops are delivered face to face in Dubbo and available by VC to rural and remote students at their local TAFE campus. Workshops will be held on a Wednesday and dates will be advised. Your teacher will provide support online, by phone or email.

Workshops are held once a month on a Wednesday. Timetables will be given to students upon enrolment.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
